Tourist information

The Poluotok peninsula is part of the old town of Zadar, more than three thousand years old Croatian town. In the middle of the 2nd century BC Zadar area and the town of Zadar gradually conquered by the Romans. The peninsula was arranged by all the principles of Roman urbanism: a small number of longitudinal and transverse increasing number of street created a proper network of city communication, which are shared by city strict geometrical order. The city was surrounded by walls and in several places by reinforced towers, and had a public water supply with water and sewerage. From historical sites we should mention the Roman Forum from the 1st century, the Church of St. Donat from the 9th century, the Romanesque church of St. Krsevan from the 12th century, cathedral of St. Anastasia from the 13th century, the People's Square and the mighty fortification walls with Port and Land gates from the 16th century. One of the trademarks of the Zadar peninsula are the boatmen of Zadar ("barkarjoli"), and the town's main street Kalelagra. The whole peninsula is possible to walk via promenade that offers impressive views of the sea and islands, especially in the evening. Of the attractions of modern times we should mention the world famous "Sea Organ" and spatial installation "Salute to the Sun" by architect Nikola Basic. Sea organ is recognizable as a specifically shaped coastline of several stairs that descend to the sea and the stairs are tubes which play 7 chords of 5 tones.

On the peninsula is an excellent choice of luxury apartments and a few small hotels. Considering that more and more people are choosing to pay a visit to the old town of Zadar in the peak of the summer season, the holiday accommodation issue is becoming very common and it is often overlooked or ignored by the local homeowners. This is why it is definitely recommended to book apartments early in the year to avoid further inconveniences and last-minute offers which can be surprisingly pricey.
